Dünya Doktorları Derneği (DDD) is a humanitarian, impartial and independent non-governmental organisation based in Turkey, facilitating access to health care to populations affected by armed conflicts, internal violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty or exclusion. It seeks to stimulate and enlist voluntary commitment from medical and health care providers, and those with expertise in other fields.

Dünya Doktorları Derneği (DDD) in Turkey, in collaboration with different partners, is running projects aiming at facilitating access and orienting beneficiaries to primary and secondary level of health care services, providing Mental Health & Psychosocial Support and Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation services to the refugees and migrants in Turkey.

Based in Albab, the Translator is under the line management of the Field Officer.

 

EXPECTED PROFILE

Education & Qualification

·       At least a high school diploma required

Professional Experience

·       Minimum 1-2 years practical experience in Turkish-Arabic translation or teaching;

·       Previous international personal or professional experience would be a plus;

·       Experience in translating and proofreading;

Technical Skills and Personal Qualities Required

·       Diplomatic;

·       Flexibility and capacity of adapt to complex and changing contexts;

·       Ability to work in an international context and collaborate with international and national experts;

·       Familiar with multicultural environment; 

Languages

·       Required: Turkish and Arabic

·       Preferred: English

Main Responsibilities

·       Document translation

·       Verbal translation

·       Reporting

·       Other related tasks

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Document Translation

·       Assist management in translating/rephrasing documents from Arabic to Turkish and vice versa in high quality; and using the humanitarian terminology in clear language understood by all parties involved;

·       Review translated material for the accuracy of meaning, grammar and syntax;

Verbal Translation

• Perform efficient and accurate translation/interpretation during meetings, workshops and professional conversations, etc., including one to one and group settings;
• Work closely with all team, translating exactly and fully from Turkish / Arabic and vice-versa, everything said by either party in the consultation or conversation;
• Kindly interrupt the interlocutors when it is needed to have time to translate;
• Behave with self-restraint always and treat interlocutor kindly and with respect;
• Explain in other words if there is some misunderstanding;
• Translating between Turkish and Arabic of each parties in the consultation or conversation;
• Ensure that all words and sentences are well communicated;

Reporting

• Report any security related issues to the line manager;
• Provide a report and/or handover document at the end of contract;

Other tasks related to the position

·       Provide assistant to any member of the team, if requested;

·       Participate in internal work meetings;

·       Report any security related issues to the line manager;

·       Support operational organisation of field trips and DDD programs;

·       Assist in any other tasks related to the position, as required by DDD Management.
